NDNA welcomes prompt start to childcare funding review - and says sector engagement is crucial for Government's fast-track plan
(NDNA) welcomes the Government's pledge to begin a much campaigned-for review into childcare funding before summer. But it warned that full sector involvement as well as a meaningful increase in funding as a result of the review - is vital to make fast-tracked reform strong and sustainable. Butterfly Lodge Open day
We are having an open day on the 16th May from 10am until 12pm you are able to bring along family members and friends to this event. There will be staff members from the company available for you to ask questions and have a look around our exciting new nursery.

What to expect, when?
It is widely recognised the vital role that parents have in supporting their children's learning and development. Parents need to know what to expect in relation to their child's development through the different age bands of the EYFS. What to expect, when? is a simple guide which takes parents through the expectations of each age band in the EYFS and how they can support their children's learning and development. Click here for the PDF guide Printed copies can be purchased from the 4Children website.

Culture and Community
Within the 2-5's room the children will be focussing on a topic which covers culture and community. We have some exciting outing planned for the children in order for them to experience their local community and engage in other cultural differences. This gives the children a good talking point and enables them to communicate freely about their environment and things they observe. The staff are looking forward to watching the children develop and build on their skills.

Weekly diaries
We are slightly changing the focus on the weekly diaries within the 2-5's room as we will be setting the children little tasks to carry out when they are in their home environment. We would find it very supportive if you could help your child to complete the tasks set as we can then use this as evidence for their profile. This helps your child transfer what they learn in nursery to the "real world" outside, and it shows them that there is a greater purpose than memorizing and forgetting new and exciting information.

Nursery Places
If your child is entitled to the 2 or 3 year old grant in September you may want to increase your child's sessions. If you are considering increasing your child's sessions at nursery please see Becca in the office.

Pre-school Leavers
The sad time of year is fast approaching where we have to say goodbye to the Pre-school children who leave us in order to start their new and exciting big school adventure. Please can you arrange to give your child's leaving dates to Becca in the office, this is to ensure that your child's profile and transition document is up-to-date and ready to take away with you on your child's last day.

Summer Weather
I would like to start by saying a big thank you to the parents/carers who have already brought their children's sun cream and sunhat labelled into nursery. Furthermore, please can I remind all parents that as the warm weather is upon us, to give your child maximum protection from the sun and in order for them to experience the outdoors in the lovely weather they need their own sun cream and sun hat for nursery, thank you!

April 2015

Our first month open has been fantastic, the children are all settling in well to their new nursery life and are enjoying making new friends. We have been exploring our new surroundings and joining in with various activities such as: Designing the garden to creating a space rocket to fly to the moon. The children have been working on their All about me topic. If you have any suggestions for future topics please write them on the white boards provided on our parent notice boards, we look forward to hearing from you.

Easter/Spring Competition
Now that Spring is upon us we are inviting parents and children to create their own spring themed models. We encourage you to be as creative as possible and use as many resources as you can. All entries will receive a prize and certificate. Please can all entries for the competition be in no later than Monday 30th April. Here are some photos for inspiration.

Garden
The garden development has been progressing over the past few week and the children have loved being a part of the garden design. The garden will be transforming over the next couple of weeks. Please have a look at the garden plans that are located on the parent information board in the main hallway near the main door.

BreakfastClub
The Breakfast Club will operate from 7:30am prior to the nursery opening at 8am. This session will need to be booked with 24 hours notice and will cost 2.50 for the 30 minute session. Please book your sessions with Rebecca or Jess in the office. Thank you.

HomeDiaries
To help develop the links between home and nursery your child brings home a weekly diary with a short insight of what your child has been doing at nursery. We would appreciate you have time to add to your child's diary including any fun memories and adventures you have been disembarking over weekend and holiday periods. We also set targets each month for the children, and this is a way to share the targets and the activities that take place at home and at nursery that will help to achieve the targets from the foundation stage. Please ask your child's key worker to share the targets set for your child.

Pre-schoolUniform
Pre-school uniform is available for all pre-school children to purchase. The uniform consists of a white polo shirt and royal blue sweat shirt with Bluebell Lodge Nursery embroidered on them. Pre-school uniform is not compulsory, but we do find that many children enjoy wearing the uniform as it gives them a sense of belonging and pride, and they are able to wear the same as their friends. Wearing a uniform also helps to protect the children's own clothes from messy play, and helps them to prepare for wearing a compulsory uniform when they transition to primary school. For more information about the uniform please see Rebecca or Jess in the Office.
